Everybody’s Home began with a simple idea, build a business and use it to help others. We have set up our business model to help people directly by using some of our profits to feed animals in need and indirectly by choosing partners that have socially responsible programs. That's a double whammy of good things!
Everybody’s Pet Project is an extension of our work with City Santa where we help women and children living in domestic violence shelters. 71% of pet-owning women entering women's shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control their victims. Up to 48% of women will not leave an abusive situation for fear of what will happen to their pets if left behind. These families are going through traumatic experiences and one of their only comforts are their animals. Simply knowing their pet is taken care of brings comfort to these women and children which is critical in helping them through the process.
Everybody’s Home is proud to announce through our Everybody’s Pet Project initiative, we are collaborating with the Urban Resource Institute People and Animals Living Safely (URIPALS) program to provide animals caught in the cross-fire of domestic violence with much needed supplies. The Urban Resource Institute runs the only two domestic violence shelters, of the over 50, in NYC that houses families and their pets together. Providing safety and comfort for all. With every purchase of a pet bed or product for their humans Everybody's Home will provide an assortment of supplies to a pet caught in the middle of domestic violence whether it be a dog, cat, turtle, fish, bird or any other creature that brings them comfort.
We believe a larger sense of purpose is what really makes our big world a small community. Whether it be reducing our footprint by using recycled materials, giving employment to underprivileged women in third world countries or supporting local causes, everything big or small we do matters. Below are some of the programs our partners are supporting to do their part in making the world a better place for everyone.
- Making eco-friendly pet beds and filler from recycled water bottles.
- Giving warm beds to homeless pets.
- Providing work opportunities to women in rural communities in India networked through self-help groups.
- Paying their employees to do volunteer work.
- Donating imperfect products such as beds and toys to homeless pets in shelters.
- Donating portions of their profits to: ASPCA, PETA, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society, Ronald McDonald House, The Humane Society and others.
As we continue to meet fantastic new partners, this list will continue to grow so check back often!
